Reile stressed that if a vehicle becomes stuck at a signal crossing, drivers should get out immediately. Vehicles, including a plow truck, became stuck at railroad crossings in Wilmette and Winthrop Harbor and had to be removed, Reile said. The biggest issues appeared to be in the north suburbs, especially on the Union Pacific North Line, running up the shoreline to Kenosha.
